I can’t believe we are already 3 weeks into our new little Pinny Pig idea! I think my girls have at least 6 months worth of things they want to try, but I have to be honest…I’m interested in what YOU want me to try. I know that the things I have pinned are things I am interested in…but what about you? Are there some pins you have seen that you were like “Hmmm I wonder?” Maybe you have something great pinned on one of your boards that I just haven’t found yet…if so, let me know!
This week has been a crazy one. We had another band concert (love hearing my big girl rock out), and I have been battling some sort of tummy thing. Not exactly a bug, but not feeling right at all. I even added a rest day in because I just couldn’t imagine trying to workout feeling the way I was. I was worried I’d have to delve into my Clean Slate board on Pinterest which is cleaning/organizing ideas for the house. I felt like I would have needed some carpet cleaner for sure! I am finally starting to get back to “normal” so I am excited to start with a clean slate of pins and try some new things this week.
So now the moment you have all been waiting for. The saddlebag workouts. I have to say. I. Love. Them. I can “feel the burn” in all the areas I want to feel it, which of course makes me feel like I am doing something about them! So Long Saddlebags is one that I can actually see myself doing on a regular basis. It’s only 5 exercises that you do in a rep for times with a small break in between sets. I am finding that I really enjoy this type of workout. It’s almost like a tabata style (would be more so if I could get all my reps done in those 20 seconds) but I am working on it. It was funny that I decided to try this workout this week because the hubs came home with 2 more Biggest Loser DVDs this week too and one of my favs that I did was a tabata style cardio. I will be honest, I didn’t know for sure what a tabata workout was until I started the DVD, but I LOVED it. For those of you who were like me, Tabata training is a high intensity training broken down into short bursts 20 seconds of exercise, 10 seconds of rest, repeat 8 times). I think I will incorporate more into my routines…and this So Long Saddlebags I think could easily change from reps to time intervals.
The 8 Exercises to Help You Say Sayonara to Saddlebags from Popsugar were also good, but I personally preferred the other workout. I felt like I needed to get a lot ready before doing this one. Weights, balance ball, steps…oy vey! Sometimes I can be SO lazy about workouts…sometime I just want to pop in a DVD or lace up my shoes and go, I don’t want to think about all the stuff I need to have ready. That being said, being lazy defeats the whole purpose I guess so really I should just suck it up buttercup, right?!?! They are good exercises if you have al of the equipment. I haven’t used my balance ball in so long that I had actually deflated it so I got a workout just looking for the pump.
- 2 Cups of Epsom Salt
- 1/2 cup of Sea Salt
- 1 & 1/2 Cups of Baking Soda
- 1 Cup of Apple Cider Vinegar
It also allowed for essential oil or ground ginger depending on preference but I had all of these other things on hand at home and so I went with it. When I talk about my youngest being my little mini me, it is no exaggeration. She is as stubborn, social, loud, crazy, adamant, basically everything I am in a smaller concentrated version. But she also is my sweet little lovey girl and where my oldest has always been more of a Daddy’s girl, my youngest is all about the Mom show. This is always something that makes my heart swell, although sometimes its hard. When? Well, imagine you finally get your tub scrubbed clean enough to want to soak in it. Are you picturing it. You light a few candles in the bathroom, turn the lights off, fill the tub with nice hot water, add the ingredients to “relax and detox” your body (and mind). You slip into the water and after about 5 minutes there is a knock on the door. “Mom, I’m hungry.” Deep breath, “okay, have Daddy get you a snack.” Pause. “Mommy, I want you to get it for me.” Snuffle. “Please.” Pause. “Give Mommy 5 more minutes then I can get you a snack.” Snuffle. “Okay.” The good news here is the page where I found this detox bath says that you want to try and stay in it for at least 10 minutes, which I was able to do (barely). What I didn’t know was how many good things a detox bath could do.
The egg white pore strip ended up being me on my own. My big girl was all set until she saw the gooey bowl of egg whites and then she decided to bail. This works just as well as actual pore strips. Now, the decision for me is do the actual pore strips work well. I think it does captures some of the “yuck” from your skin, but is it enough to make a huge difference? I didn’t really think so. Plus, after pealing away that layer of hardened tissue, I feel like I need a homemade skin soother. They really should come up with both for these recipes.
What to try next? I have been busy adding more pins to (all of) my boards, and my hubby has to work all day Saturday which means we are having a GIRL DAY! I have invited my mom to come up and spend the afternoon with us. We all need haircuts so I’m hoping to get that in after soccer practice and swim class, then if Mimi can come up maybe manicures and lunch. The girls have decided to have a slumber party in Big Sis’s room that night too with popcorn, root beer floats, stufties, snuggles and Frozen. So this week I am planning to try out these SPAtacular ideas. A brown sugar and honey facial scrub. I love scrubs! I made a few this past Christmas for the girls at work and they were very well received, so this seems like a no brainer! I also plan to try this tooth whitening recipe. You can do it at home (in theory) and as a coffee drinker I want to enjoy my cup o joe everyday but also have pearly whites. I have tried whitening strips and they actually made my teeth very sensitive and sore in a way. I do NOT want to do that again. The things we do for events (this one was my wedding). So I am going to try the old at home version and see how we do.
For work out ideas this week…I am hitting a running store. I love to run. To me, running is therapy. It’s me and my music and my breath, even when I’m running with someone or alongside my favorite little bicyclist…its still time where I connect with my inner self. Mini me has been loving riding her bike outside (on the few occasions we have been able too….hello, Mother Nature, a little help here would be nice). We have been sitting at a chilly 20 degrees below our normal temps fr this time of year for a few weeks now. Anywho…I digress, since giving birth to my amazing mini me, my feet have never been quite the same as before. Add into that equation a surgery from a stress fracture (I didn’t even know I had), the subtraction of a piece of bone the addition of a screw) and I can’t seem to find a shoe that lets me run (or any other kind of workout really) that doesn’t completely make my feet cramp up beyond belief. When I was taking classes at the gym here at work, I was SO glad for my little grippy yoga socks because that is what I had to wear for classes. Wearing my sneaks would practically hobble me. So, I have talked to a few friends who are runners and “people who work out” and they have given me a few places to try for help. I want to know what kind of support I need for my gait and foot type now. That is my workout goal this week. That and maintaining my 4-6 workouts a week schedule.
Wish me luck! Hopefully I can find a great pair of shoes that wont’ cost as much as my mortgage!
